We invite you to join the advanced workshop Epistolary Film, led by filmmakers Nikica Zdunić, Eva Kraljević, and Iva Gavrilović. The application deadline is 24 February 2026. More about the program follows below:
The aim of the workshop is to explore the form of the film letter and, through audiovisual correspondence connect together filmmakers from Croatia (members of Kinoklub Zagreb) and Norway (Oslo Fotokunstskole). As part of the workshop, examples of letter films, video diaries, and essay films will be analyzed, and participants will be encouraged to engage in dialogue with one another through the form of audiovisual exchange. The workshop will function as follows: at the beginning, authorial pairs (2–3 authors per project) will be connected online to collaborate on their future film. With mentoring support through all phases of the process (idea and concept, filming, editing), they will prepare materials for their films, which they will complete during an on site meeting in Zagreb.
Participants will be encouraged, depending on their chosen approach, to identify and reflect on specific themes or events in their lives, thereby creating a unique reflection from a dual authorial perspective. By intertwining two cultures and authors of different or similar sensibilities, hybrid authorial film works with universal qualities may emerge.
The workshop will take place in two parts:
-
It will begin online (lectures once a week during March and April / Fridays from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.), with the aim of analyzing examples, identifying personal themes and directorial approaches, and pairing authors who will collaborate.
-
It will continue during an intensive practical week in Zagreb, from 13–19 April 2026, when visiting Norwegian authors, collaborating with Croatian authors through a week-long program of meetings and collaboration, will finalize their films, which will then be publicly screened.
All interested applicants are asked to apply by 24 February 2026 by emailing radionice@kkz.hr with:

The workshop is free of charge for all participants. Equipment and workspace will be provided by Kinoklub Zagreb. The workshop will be conducted in English. Participants are expected to have basic knowledge of filming and editing, to be motivated to develop a joint film between sessions and build upon their ideas with collaborators, to meet and collaborate with other authors, and to create a unique audiovisual dialogue.
