Film tjedna #007 - The Sound of Music (r.

I ona sama ustane.

The climax of this film occurs at the beginning. All the pedestrians who were just passing by the street musician as if she wasn't there stop and stay quiet so as to respect the Thai national anthem. The musician stands up, too. Only a confused white woman, stuck in the middle of the frame, wanders around for a few more steps, looking around, just as confounded as the child in her arms. We're not in Kansas anymore? The other players' music doesn't wield the power necessary to stop people in their tracks. Apart from a single man, no one pays attention to the sound coming from below. The street's noise often presents an obstacle for the mic trying to record the sound of music, but the camera isn't burdened by such things. It records everything - be it the sad and enthralled faces of the musicians or simply their hands doing what they can to stay alive.

Mario Papić's memorably titled observation is condensed and uncomfortable in equal measure. Whatever the film may sound like to you, it's worth taking a peek at.
